Importing machinery into Germany | What must be clear before loading?

For machinery entering Germany from outside the European Union, start the file with the model, intended use, whether the machine is new or used, and a list of its components. This data matters both for the customs description and for checking the requirements for placing the machine on the market and putting it into service.
From EORI to the electronic declaration
Before shipping, decide who the declarant is and who supplies the documents to the broker. Check the EORI number for the relevant role. German customs uses the ATLAS system for import declarations. Check the tariff and product restrictions by classification and origin in TARIC, and include import tax separately in your financial estimate.
Example | A used industrial printing machine
For a used printing machine, state the model number, serial number, condition, transaction value and any parts packed separately. The broker must be able to tell how the machine itself and its accompanying items are presented in the declaration. Before you pay, check the conformity documents and the applicable safety requirements with a specialist for that product.

Customs clearance and placing the machine on the market are two separate checks
For the clearance file, prepare the value, origin, classification, number of packages and the declarant's details. For placing on the market or commissioning, obtain the technical documentation, the machine manual and any declaration of conformity available, and ask a specialist to identify the applicable rules according to the type of machine, its condition and how it will be supplied. If the machine will be rebuilt or modified after purchase, give the specialist a description of those changes too.
